Crossrail has released footage of the train testing that is taking place underneath the streets of London ahead of the opening of the Elizabeth line in December.
Now in its final stages, Europe’s largest infrastructure has already seen the completion of installation of all overhead power equipment – enhancing the case for electrification – as well as the platform screen doors.
The video shows Elizabeth line trains being tested between Abbey Wood and Canary Wharf, using the new automatic train control system on the line. This is one of hundreds of test runs that will take place between now and when the first completed infrastructure will be handed over to Transport for London (TfL), who will be responsible for operating the line and will lead trial operations and commissioning.
Mark Wild, the Managing Director of London Underground and the Elizabeth line, spoke about how the project will transform rail travel.
He said: “With just seven months to go until the opening of the Elizabeth line, which will transform travel across the city, it’s great to see testing ramping up beneath the streets of London.”
