CMP were contracted to install tubular driven bearing piles to form new foundations for a reconstruction of the historic Western Super-mare pier. Works were undertaken from marine barges, using conventional impact driving techniques.
- 30m long piles were driven 20m into the sea-bed, of which 5m penetrated into mudstone
- Piles driven using a Cx110 hammer and 120t crane working on a 1500t barge
- Static load tests carried out on piles to prove 4500kN dead-load
- 12 anchor piles constructed into the rock to allow piles to resist 500kN uplift for the foundation of the new tower
